A tragic accident unfolded near Chamba in the Tehri district, claiming eight lives and injuring two others. The incident occurred when a utility pickup skidded off a road and plummeted into a 300-metre deep gorge.
The vehicle was carrying residents of Thyoldhar village who were returning home from a funeral service, according to Tehri District Magistrate Nitika Khandelwal. The accident took place around 2.15 pm near Nail village on the Chamba-Koti Colony road. Authorities rapidly responded following an emergency call, deploying two ambulances and rescue teams to the scene, recovering the victims and tending to the injured.
The deceased were identified as including Sampat Lal's son and a 35-year-old driver, among others. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed his condolences, ensuring the injured receive adequate medical attention.
