Parts of the national capital experienced the season's first heat wave on Friday, leading the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert. With the temperature reaching 41.9 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung, other areas like Lodhi Road and Ridge recorded even higher readings.

The IMD forecast suggests that the harsh weather will persist in isolated regions on Saturday, as temperatures could rise between 42-44 degrees Celsius. Officials predict some relief starting Monday due to the potential for overcast skies and light rain.

Meanwhile, the city's air quality worsened, returning to the 'poor' category with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 226 on Friday, up from a 'moderate' level the day before. The air quality is expected to remain poor for the next two days before showing improvements.
