A technical snag left over 300 tourists stranded in mid-air on the Gulmarg Gondola cable car, creating panic among passengers. Roughly 65 cabins, halted by the malfunction, were suspended nearly 500 feet above ground, requiring immediate attention.
A swift, seven-hour rescue operation was initiated, involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Indian Army's Chinar Corps. Despite heavy rain hampering efforts, all trapped passengers were eventually brought to safety.
Authorities, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, praised the rescue teams. An investigation is underway to ascertain causes and prevent future occurrences. Meanwhile, public applause continues for the exceptional courage displayed by all involved teams.
