India's wheat output is forecasted to see a 2.29% increase, reaching 120.65 million tonnes in the 2025-26 crop year, according to data issued by the government on Wednesday. Despite experiencing localized weather disruptions like unseasonal rains and hailstorms, production continues to rise.
The agriculture ministry's initial weather-adjusted estimates for 2025-26 were pegged slightly lower at 120.21 million tonnes, still showcasing an increase from the 117.94 million tonnes recorded in 2024-25. Emphasizing the crop's 'stable and resilient' nature against climate fluctuations, the ministry also noted an overall upsurge in foodgrain production from 357.73 million tonnes last year to a projected 376.55 million tonnes.
