Delhi residents have been warned as an orange alert is in place for the evening, predicting moderate to severe thunderstorms and the possibility of isolated hailstorms. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicates that several areas will likely experience these conditions.

Winds are expected to blow at speeds of 50 to 60 kilometres per hour, gusting up to 70 kilometres per hour, with rain anticipated as well. Mahesh Palawat from Skymet confirmed that thunderstorm activity in northern Rajasthan is extending to Delhi and will persist overnight, anticipated to grow stronger by the next day.

This weather pattern is expected to last until May 30, before moving towards Gujarat. Palawat noted that this current pre-monsoon spell is set to bring heavier rainfall than those earlier in the year.

Factors influencing this weather include a western disturbance over the hills, a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan, and moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal, contributing to increased humidity. The maximum temperature in Delhi is predicted to reach 43 degrees Celsius during the event.
