The Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman, Arun Dhumal, announced the temporary suspension of the tournament's 18th edition, citing escalating tensions between India and Pakistan as the primary reason. The decision was revealed following the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) announcement to suspend IPL 2025 for a week.
The clash between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala was halted midway through the first innings. Spectators were notified and asked to vacate the stadium, while both teams were escorted back to their hotel, ensuring safety and order.
According to BCCI sources, a special Vande Bharat train was arranged to transport players from the Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and the entire broadcast crew safely from Dharamshala to Delhi. The move underscores the board's commitment to player safety amidst the geopolitical tensions.
