The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made a significant move by terminating the contracts of all five mentors linked to domestic teams in the inaugural Champions One-Day Cup. The dismissed individuals include renowned former captains such as Waqar Younis and Misbah Ul Haq, as well as Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shoaib Malik, and Saqlain Mushtaq.
According to insider sources, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi held a meeting with board officials where they evaluated the mentors' performance since their appointments last year. The board had arranged for these former cricketers to serve a certain number of days with their teams, while also allowing them to engage in media roles and other endeavors.
Reports suggest that the mentors were each receiving a stipend of 5 million Pakistani rupees monthly. However, the consensus at the meeting was that the expenditure was unjustifiable due to the lack of delivered value. It was also highlighted that attendees were displeased with Malik's preference for playing in the national T20 championship over focusing solely on his mentorship duties.
