In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court has quashed the FIR lodged against celebrated badminton player Lakshya Sen, his family, and coach, regarding a birth certificate forgery allegation. The court's decision was based on the absence of new evidence, rendering the continuation of the case an abuse of court processes.
Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Aravind Kumar noted that competent authorities had previously examined and dismissed the allegations. The Sports Authority of India's comprehensive investigation, which included medical testing, had substantiated the validity of the documents in question.
The court underscored that compelling Sen and his associates, who have represented India with distinction in international sports, to endure a criminal trial without substantial evidence would not serve justice. The bench emphasized that the invocation of criminal law in this instance was unwarranted and could not be condoned.
