Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, India's dynamic men's doubles team, have advanced to the quarterfinals of the China Open, defeating Chinese Taipei's Chiu Hsiang Chieh and Wang Chi-Lin 21-13, 21-12, in a match lasting only 33 minutes. This success follows their impressive performance as runners-up at the Hong Kong Open.
The pair will next face China's Ren Xiang Yu and Xie Haonan. Previously, they secured a spot in the round of 16 with a win over Malaysia's Junaidi Arif and Roy King Yap in straight games. Meanwhile, two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu has also reached the quarterfinals of the Li-Ning China Masters after defeating Thailand's World No. 6, Pornpawee Chochuwong, in straight games.
Sindhu's victory at the Shenzhen Arena marks a vital step in a challenging season characterized by early exits. Her campaign began with a triumphant win over Denmark's Dawall Jakobsen. As Sindhu looks to recreate her 2016 China Open success, Ayush Shetty faced a setback, losing in the first round against Chou Tien Chen. Despite his early exit, Ayush remains the only Indian to have clinched a BWF World Tour title this year after his US Open victory in June. The tournament continues until September 21.
