The inaugural Archery Premier League, unveiled at a grand event in New Delhi, aims to spotlight India's latent archery talent by forming six competitive franchises from 48 archers, including international players. Archery Association of India (AAI) President Arjun Munda emphasized the league's dual goal to boost archery's popularity and prepare for the 2028 and 2032 Olympics by appointing a foreign coach.
India made history at the recent World Archery Championships, securing two medals, including the first-ever gold in the men's compound team event. The Central government's talent hunt program, coupled with support from the Sports Authority of India and encouragement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has bolstered India's archery prospects.
Virendra Sachdeva, secretary-general of India's archery governing body, stated that the league presents a major opportunity for archers, blending cultural significance with modern competition. Scheduled to officially commence on Dussehra Day with actor Ram Charan as brand ambassador, hopes are high that this initiative will propel Indian archery to Olympic success.
