IOC Honors Legacy of Veteran Sports Leader Randhir Singh with Mourning Gesture

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is observing a period of mourning to honor Randhir Singh, a veteran sports administrator from India, who passed away at the age of 79 after battling health issues.

In a statement, IOC President Kirsty Coventry praised Singh for his remarkable dedication to the Olympics, noting his long-standing influence in the growth of the movement in both India and Asia. The Olympic flag will fly at half-mast for three days to commemorate his contributions.

Singh, a five-time Olympian, achieved significant milestones over his career, including winning India's first Asian Games gold medal in shooting.

In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Singh held key administrative roles, including Secretary General of the Indian Olympic Association and later President of the Olympic Council of Asia in 2024, making him the first Indian to hold this position.
