An enormous assembly of Paris Saint-Germain supporters gathered peacefully by the Eiffel Tower on Sunday to celebrate the team's Champions League triumph. This followed a night of violence, where clashes throughout France resulted in over 780 arrests and 57 injured officers.
Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez reported that the situation had been largely contained, following incidents that primarily occurred in Paris' Champs Elysees district and near the Parc des Princes stadium. He confirmed the continuation of the planned celebrations at the iconic Champ de Mars with heightened security to manage the crowd, which was expected to reach up to 100,000 people.
The winning team's players were set to parade the Champions League trophy against the scenic backdrop of the Eiffel Tower. They were then scheduled to meet President Emmanuel Macron at the presidential palace. Despite scattered unrest in around 15 cities and various public order offenses, the majority of fans celebrated with respect and unity.
