Indonesia announced the suspension of TikTok's registration as an electronic system provider, citing its failure to submit comprehensive data regarding its live stream feature. Despite the suspension, the social media platform remained accessible on Friday.
The decision follows revelations during national protests that some accounts used TikTok's live stream feature for monetization linked to online gambling. Alexander Sabar from Indonesia's communications and digital ministry emphasized the violation of obligations by TikTok, necessitating the suspension.
The protests, which erupted over lawmaker allowances and police brutality, led TikTok to temporarily suspend its live streaming feature for safety concerns. The government's demand for data was met with incomplete compliance, sparking regulatory action. With more than 100 million users in Indonesia, TikTok has yet to comment on the development.
