OpenAI, a prominent U.S. artificial intelligence company, announced on Saturday its landmark deal with Malta, providing all residents access to its ChatGPT Plus service for a year, contingent on completing an AI usage course. This initiative commences in May, with expected expansion as more Maltese take the free course.

The program is inclusive, extending to Maltese citizens residing overseas. Economy Minister Silvio Schembri emphasized transforming AI's abstract notions into tangible benefits for families, students, and the workforce. Malta becomes the first nation to implement such an initiative on a national scale.

While the agreement sets a precedent, OpenAI has chosen not to disclose the financial details of this pioneering partnership, marking a significant step in global AI integration efforts.
