India Sees Massive Uptick in Codex AI Usage Since 2026

OpenAI has reported a significant rise in the number of weekly active users of its Codex AI software in India, with usage expanding 27 times since the beginning of 2026. This surge highlights India's position as a prominent player in the global adoption of this advanced AI tool.

Interestingly, over 25% of Codex interactions in India are for non-coding purposes, showcasing its versatility. It is being adopted for information synthesis, document drafting, and automating research and communication tasks. According to Thomas Jeng, Head of Startups - Asia Pacific at OpenAI, a diverse group including founders and students, is turning to Codex to quickly transform ideas into practical applications.

OpenAI also confirmed collaborations with well-known Indian companies such as TCS, Infosys, and Razorpay, reflecting the country's strong culture for building with cutting-edge AI solutions. Overall, India's rapid adoption perfectly illustrates how actively AI tools are being integrated into daily processes.
