India's Industrial Slowdown: Impact of Monsoon on Production
India's industrial production growth decelerated to 1.5% in June 2025, the lowest in ten months, primarily due to weak mining and power sectors amid monsoon rains. Manufacturing saw slight improvements, but overall growth for the April-June period fell compared to last year, according to NSO data.

India's industrial production felt the brunt of monsoon rains, with growth hitting a 10-month low of 1.5% in June 2025. The slowdown was attributed to underperformance in the mining and power sectors, according to official data published on Monday.
Factory output, measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), displayed a significant reduction from 4.9% achieved in the same month the previous year. However, the National Statistics Office (NSO) positively revised May's industrial growth to 1.9%, up from the earlier estimate of 1.2%.
Manufacturing output saw a modest increase to 3.9% from the preceding year's 3.5%, while mining and power production faced contractions. For the April-June fiscal quarter, overall industrial growth recorded a mere 2%, reflecting a downturn from the 5.4% rate observed during the same period last year.
