The Standing Committee on Railways has urged a review of concession policies for senior citizens, particularly in sleeper and 3AC classes, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told the Rajya Sabha on Friday.
Several Members of Parliament pressed the issue of restoring these travel concessions for the elderly, questioning the minister about the committee's recommendations.
Though Vaishnaw acknowledged the advice, he highlighted Indian Railways' commitment to affordable travel that includes a substantial subsidy averaging 45% on passenger tickets, covering all travelers.
