In a significant boost to regional connectivity, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai inaugurated a MEMU passenger train service between Rajim and Raipur on Thursday. The new service also includes an extension of the existing Raipur-Abhanpur line to Rajim, offering a low-cost travel option to the state capital.
This rail extension is set to benefit residents in Rajim, Gariaband, and Deobhog. The train aims to cater to students, employees, and traders, providing them with a more convenient and economical travel option. Rajim, often called Chhattisgarh's 'Prayag', now has enhanced access to the state capital.
Significant investments are being made in railway infrastructure, with Rs 45,000 crores committed to ongoing projects. The state budget for 2025-26 allocates Rs 7,000 crores for expanding rail services. This connectivity boost is expected to promote tourism and religious travel, officials said.
