In a sharp rebuke against Kerala's ruling leadership, V D Satheesan, the opposition leader, accused Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of being a 'fake devotee' during a public statement on Saturday. Satheesan claimed the state's recent religious conclave, the Ayyappa Sangamam, was politically motivated, with a focus on upcoming elections.

Satheesan criticized the government's approach to the issues surrounding the Sabarimala shrine, alleging mismanagement and failure to execute promised developmental projects. He highlighted a lack of response from the authorities regarding Supreme Court matters on women's entry and financial commitments to the temple.

Raising concerns about state finances, Satheesan pointed out the government's failure to deliver on promised funds, leaving the Travancore Devaswom Board shouldering the expenses alone. He also criticized the government's promotional materials for sidelining religious figures in favor of political imagery.
