The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has levied a penalty on a contractor following the circulation of a video showing staff washing crockery in a train toilet. The video, captured by a passenger on the Mumbai–Kochi Duronto Express, prompted IRCTC to take immediate action.
IRCTC officials stated that the staff involved were removed from duty in response to the hygiene breach captured in the viral video, which was widely shared on social media. The company asserted its commitment to maintaining strict hygiene standards and ensuring passenger safety. The IRCTC reiterated that it routinely educates catering firms and trains them in proper sanitary practices.
An IRCTC representative mentioned ongoing cooperation with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, which may also have issued a notice concerning this incident. IRCTC officials stress that swift action is taken whenever similar incidents are reported to maintain the quality of service.
