In a startling incident in Chhattisgarh's Balodabazar district, 78 students from a government-run school were administered anti-rabies vaccines following the alleged consumption of contaminated mid-day meals. The contamination was reportedly caused by a stray dog that tampered with the cooked vegetables meant for the students.
The incident unfolded on July 29 at Government Middle School in Lachchhanpur under Palari block, leading to a series of inquiries. Despite teachers warning against serving the potentially contaminated food, the self-help group in charge of meal preparation proceeded to serve it, claiming it was safe.
The situation escalated as students reported the incident to their parents, prompting a strong backlash from villagers who demanded the removal of the self-help group. Authorities, including the block education officer and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, have initiated a comprehensive probe. Local MLA Sandeep Sahu has called for a detailed investigation and accountability.
