Controversy Erupts Over Janeu Removal at CET Exam

A heated controversy has emerged at Krupanidhi College in the city following an incident during the Common Entrance Test (CET). Students accused invigilators of discrimination after five Brahmin students were told to remove their sacred thread (Janeu/Yajnopaveetha) despite government instructions stating otherwise.

The students reported that invigilators asked them to remove their sacred thread to be allowed to sit for the examination, contradicting previous assurances that such practices would not be enforced. Last year, similar allegations prompted state authorities to instruct against the removal of the sacred thread.

This incident mirrors previous controversies in places like Shivamogga and Bidar. In response, the Higher Education Minister promised action against those involved, while the chief minister had already directed officials last year to refrain from such demands. Nevertheless, students continue to face similar challenges, demanding urgent resolutions.
