Karnataka Minister H C Mahadevappa has sparked interest by asserting that Tipu Sultan, the Mysore ruler of the 18th century, laid the foundation for the Krishna Raja Sagar dam.
The official government website notes the dam's construction began in 1911 during King Krishna Raja Wadiyar Bahadur's rule and concluded in 1931. Bharat Ratna recipient Sir M Visvesvaraya was instrumental in its development.
Minister Mahadevappa emphasized Tipu Sultan's contributions, including initiating land reforms, promoting sericulture, and fostering religious harmony in the region. He hailed Sultan as a notable freedom fighter and social reformer who battled against British colonial power.
