BJP Karnataka president B Y Vijayendra has publicly criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Social Welfare Minister H C Mahadevappa for allegedly distorting the legacy of the Mysore royal family, particularly Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, in a dispute over the historical origins of the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) dam.

Vijayendra responded to claims by Minister Mahadevappa that Tipu Sultan laid the foundation for the iconic dam by accusing the current government of attempting to rewrite well-documented history to suit political ends. The BJP MLA argued that the project was a vision of Nalwadi, realized through the perseverance of the Mysore royals and completed after overcoming numerous obstacles.

The controversy has sparked significant political debate, with the Leader of Opposition R Ashoka also condemning the Siddaramaiah government, accusing it of trying to rename the KRS reservoir as Tipu Sultan Sagar for political gain. Vijayendra denounced the claims as misrepresentations, urging the respect and recognition of the Mysore Wadiyars' legacy.
