The Maharashtra government, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, is committed to facilitating the return of elephant Madhuri to Kolhapur from Vantara's facility in Gujarat. This decision follows a review petition to be filed in the Supreme Court by the state and Nandani Math.
Madhuri, residing in Nandani for over three decades, was moved to Vantara's rehabilitation center following a court mandate due to concerns about her health. Despite this, public sentiment remains strong, with thousands marching in Kolhapur advocating for her return.
In response, Fadnavis assured legal recourse and welfare measures, including forming a dedicated team for Madhuri's care. The Deputy CM also called for documentation on Maharashtra's relocated elephants, as the state explores the potential establishment of a rescue facility at Nandani Math.
