Gautam Khattar, a right-wing orator, was escorted to Goa under a transit remand after being arrested in Himachal Pradesh. The arrest pertains to allegations of derogatory remarks he reportedly made about St Francis Xavier, the revered patron saint of Goa.
The Goa Crime Branch had been actively investigating Khattar following a viral video that sparked public outrage. In the video, Khattar is seen addressing a gathering in Goa, where he allegedly made objectionable statements about the saint's Holy Relics.
The issue escalated after complaints were filed by several groups, prompting the Goa Police to register multiple FIRs against him. The case has been transferred to the Crime Branch for further investigation, after initially being lodged at various police stations across the state.
