Call to Reduce GST on Helmets and Essential Medical Equipment Gains Momentum
The International Road Federation has urged Narendra Modi and the GST council to lower or lift taxes on helmets and key medical equipment to ease access and save lives.
The International Road Federation (IRF) has called upon Narendra Modi and the GST council to consider reducing or eliminating the Goods and Services Tax on helmets, ambulances, and crucial medical devices. This move aims to enhance public safety and reduce financial strain on the public.
In a communication to the Prime Minister, IRF's K K Kapila commended the government's efforts in GST reform and highlighted the burdensome tax rates on essential safety and healthcare products. He stressed the importance of helmets, currently subjected to an 18 percent GST, as vital safety gear for two-wheeler riders that save lives on India's roads.
Kapila also noted the high taxation on ambulances and critical medical supplies like oxygen concentrators and wheelchairs, which are vital for emergency healthcare. The Federation believes that reducing GST on these goods will promote accessibility, strengthen road safety adherence, and improve emergency medical services.
