In a move to counteract misleading narratives, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has clarified that a widely circulated image of a crashed aircraft is unrelated to the ongoing Operation Sindoor. The image, shared by pro-Pakistan handles, actually depicts an Indian Air Force (IAF) MiG-29 jet crash from Barmer, Rajasthan, in September 2024, caused by a technical issue. Notably, the pilot survived the incident.

The PIB emphasized that the crash imagery is unconnected to current military maneuvers or Operation Sindoor. They cautioned the public against spreading false information, advising them to rely on official sources for updates on national security matters. This advisory comes in response to social media activity, particularly on platforms operated by Pakistan-based users.

Pakistan-affiliated handles have launched a misinformation campaign, leveraging outdated media to falsely claim strikes and casualties in Indian territories. A video posted by a user, Shamil Jawani, was marked as 'FAKE' by the PIB after it became apparent the footage was from a 2024 wildfire, unrelated to military actions. The campaign coincides with precision missile strikes conducted by India on terror cells in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
