Ninety flights scheduled for arrivals and departures at Delhi Airport were grounded on Thursday due to the closure of airspace, sources reported. The cancellations encompass 46 domestic departures, 33 domestic arrivals, along with five international departures and six international arrivals, scheduled between 8 am and 2 pm.
The disruptions follow the Indian Armed Forces' Operation Sindoor, targeting Pakistan. The central government announced closures of 21 airports in North and Northwest India until May 10. Major northern cities remain on high alert as airports across India implement stringent security measures.
Airlines such as IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet, Akasa Air, and Air India Express are affected, with flights cancelled or rescheduled. SpiceJet announced its operational halt in six northern airports, while IndiGo suspended flights in 11 cities, adhering to directives following the Pahalgam terror attack.
SpiceJet and IndiGo travel advisories detailed closures in cities including Leh, Srinagar, Jammu, and Amritsar, with suspensions lasting until 5:29 am IST on May 10. Delhi Airport issued a travel warning post-India's precise strikes on terror targets in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir on Wednesday.
In retaliation, Pakistan engaged numerous military targets across Northern and Western India using drones and missiles. These attacks were neutralized by India's Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems, with debris recovery ongoing to substantiate the Pakistani assault. (ANI)
