India Imposes Night Blackout in Gurdaspur Amid Rising Indo-Pak Tensions

The Government of India, alongside the Punjab Government, has taken decisive steps under the Civil Defence Act, 1968, to impose a full blackout in Gurdaspur district from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM starting May 8, 2025. This move follows a heightened alert due to sensitive conditions along the Indo-Pak border, with further instructions pending.

While Central Jail Gurdaspur and local hospitals are exempt from this blackout, they are mandated to keep their windows closed to prevent any escape of light. The blackout is part of measures to navigate potential emergencies as tensions rise following escalatory actions between India and Pakistan.

Following India's execution of Operation Sindoor, which struck nine terror sites in Pakistan, Pakistan reportedly retaliated by targeting military assets in Northern and Western India on May 7. Indian Air Defence Systems, including the S-400 Sudarshan Chakra, successfully neutralised these threats, as efforts continue to recover attack debris. The Indian Armed Forces responded by targeting Pakistani Air Defence radars, eliminating over 100 terrorists amid ongoing operations.
