Indian Railways is making significant strides in railway safety with the commissioning of the Kavach 4.0 system on the Mathura-Kota section of the Delhi-Mumbai route. This system marks a pivotal advancement in the modernization of railway safety, echoing the nation's commitment to self-reliance as outlined in the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative.
Developed and manufactured indigenously, the Kavach Automatic Train Protection System received approval from the Research Designs & Standards Organisation (RDSO) in July 2024. Its rapid implementation stands in stark contrast to the decades it took developed nations to adopt similar technologies. The deployment on the Kota-Mathura section was executed with remarkable expediency, a feat not seen since India's independence.
Plans are underway to extend Kavach 4.0 across various routes nationwide within six years. Over 30,000 individuals have been trained in the system, with educational institutions incorporating its study into their curriculum. The system's advanced technology, including RFID tags and telecom towers, ensures precision and reliability, ultimately enhancing passenger safety with its robust accident prevention capabilities.
