The funeral of a 15-year-old girl from Odisha's Puri district, who died from severe burn injuries, was held on Monday in her native village amid heightened security measures.
The burial, attended by her grieving family, took place at a village by the Bhargavi river. Notable attendees included Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida and Pipili MLA Ashrit Pattnayak. Around 100 police personnel were deployed to ensure safety during the procession and ceremony.
The young girl had sustained over 70% burn injuries and passed away on Saturday. Initially, her family alleged she was set on fire by three assailants, but later her father supported the police's claims of suicide due to emotional distress. Parida expressed condolences and noted efforts by the state government to provide the best medical care.
