In a significant operation, Assam Rifles seized illegally marketed 'ORIS' cigarettes worth approximately Rs 89.96 lakh in Champhai on Thursday. Acting on specific intelligence, personnel conducted a search in Chhungte, Champhai, successfully retrieving 69 cases and 10 loose cartons of the contraband.
The confiscated items have been handed over to the Legal Metrology Department, Champhai. This operation follows a major drug crackdown where a joint effort between Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police resulted in the recovery of 341.12 grams of Heroin No. 4, valued at around Rs 2.55 crore near Lungpuizawl, Lunglei District, and led to the arrest of four suspects.
Acting on precise intelligence inputs, a Mobile Vehicle Check Post at Zobawk intercepted a suspicious vehicle from Hnahthial to Lunglei and Lawngtlai. Upon a thorough search, high-grade narcotics were found, resulting in the immediate custody of four individuals. The contraband and detainees have been handed to Police Station Lunglei for further investigation.
