Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot has sent back the Karnataka Lake Conservation and Development Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2025, raising serious concerns about the state's move to cut buffer zones around lakes and Rajakaluvas to 30 meters. Despite its passage in both legislative houses, the amendment faces scrutiny for its potential ecological imbalance.
The Governor emphasized objections from the Bengaluru Town Hall Association, which argues that the amendment violates central laws and guidelines. In a formal request, the Governor asked the state for a comprehensive explanation of the decision, sparking intensified debates around urban lake conservation as Bengaluru grapples with ecological challenges.
Concurrently, maintenance on the Cauvery River supply network has urged BWSSB to caution Bengaluru residents about water supply disruptions. Work scheduled from September 15-17 is intended to optimize the city's water infrastructure, ensuring ongoing distribution reliability and showcasing the critical balance between resource management and urban planning.
