A coalition of veterinary specialists, Vets in Poultry, emphasized on Friday that chicken and eggs are among the most economical protein sources for people. They caution that social media misinformation about their consumption negatively impacts the growth of the poultry sector.
The association, representing roughly 1,700 veterinary experts including doctors, addressed false beliefs linked to hormone and antibiotic use, bird flu misconceptions, egg safety, nutritional value, and environmental effects. 'Poultry is crucial for nutritional security,' stated Vets in Poultry President Ajay Deshpande during a press briefing.
Recent online claims suggest negative health outcomes from broiler egg and chicken consumption. However, government statistics reveal an increase in India's total egg production and substantial contribution to meat supply. The association stresses the necessity to challenge misinformation, as modern broiler advancement stems from genetics, feed, health, and management, not steroid hormones.
