On May 20, the Delhi Congress will commence a 12-day 'Kalash Yatra' across 33 Assembly constituencies dominated by the Purvanchal community. The yatra aims to demand justice for 21-year-old Pandav Kumar, a slain delivery agent shot dead during a dispute in the Jaffarpur Kalan area.
The yatra will carry the deceased's ashes and seek Rs 1 crore in compensation for his family, along with a government job for a family member and a fast-track trial for the case. The protest highlights the broader issue of social harmony, advocating for a law to address crimes targeting individuals based on community or regional identity.
Congress leaders, including Delhi Congress President Devender Yadav, hope the yatra will raise awareness about maintaining social dignity and respect, transcending community boundaries. They emphasize that recent incidents of discrimination, like those against individuals from the Northeast, should also be addressed urgently.
