Karnataka Boosts Financial Aid for Road Accident Victims

The Karnataka government has announced an enhancement in financial assistance for road accident victims, approving an additional Rs 1 lakh on top of the existing Rs 1.5 lakh provided under the Centre's Cashless Treatment Scheme for Road Accident Victims (CTRAV) 2025.

This decision comes following a proposal by the Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust, citing Karnataka's fifth rank in accident-related fatalities across India. The state records about 40,000 accidents annually, resulting in approximately 11,000 deaths each year. The CTRAV scheme, as notified under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, offers free medical treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh during the 'golden hour' and seven days post-accident.

The state government's additional support is designed to address scenarios requiring extended treatment beyond existing provisions, such as multi-organ failure or ventilator support. The scheme will be administered through the NHA/MoRTH TMS 2.0 platform and aligns with existing budget allocations without imposing extra financial burdens.
