Hantavirus Investigation in Italy: A New Health Challenge
Italy's top infectious diseases hospital is analyzing samples from a quarantined man who had contact with a Hantavirus-infected woman. She was disembarked from a flight due to the virus. The outbreak, linked to the MV Hondius ship, has nine cases reported by WHO.
Italy's leading infectious diseases hospital announced plans Tuesday to examine biological samples from a quarantined man exposed to a woman who succumbed to Hantavirus.
The ANSA news agency initially reported that the 25-year-old man from Calabria was hospitalized. He was in brief contact with the woman on a flight from Johannesburg.
However, the hospital clarified that they await the samples for analysis. Linked to a recent expedition ship, MV Hondius, WHO confirmed nine cases and observed that more might emerge but ruled out a pandemic.
