The strategic alliance known as the Quad, featuring the United States, India, Japan, and Australia, has reaffirmed its commitment to maritime security in the East China Sea and the South China Sea amid growing regional tensions. US State Department Deputy Spokesperson Mignon Houston highlighted the collective maritime concerns during a recent briefing.
Houston referenced a joint statement where the members expressed serious worries about regional security, underscoring the need for adherence to international maritime laws and the importance of freedom of navigation. "The Quad nations are prominent maritime allies, understanding the risks posed when navigation freedoms are compromised," Houston noted, stressing issues like illegal fishing and piracy.
During the recent Quad meeting, India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar announced the launch of a Critical Minerals Initiative focusing on mineral recovery. Furthermore, Quad discussions encompassed various Indo-Pacific regional matters and broader geopolitical conflicts, demonstrating a unified strategy in addressing these significant challenges.
