The Foreign Minister of the Afghan Taliban, Amir Khan Muttaqi, is scheduled for a significant visit to India starting October 9, making it the first high-level engagement since the Taliban's ascension in August 2021. Confirmed by MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, this visit underscores India's ongoing diplomatic and humanitarian involvement with Afghanistan's interim government.
The UN Security Council has facilitated Amir Khan Muttaqi's visit by granting a temporary exemption from international travel restrictions, allowing him to be in India for a week. MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated that discussions have been ongoing between the two countries. Earlier, a teleconference was held between India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Amir Khan Muttaqi.
As Afghanistan grapples with the aftermath of a devastating earthquake, India has been proactive in delivering humanitarian aid. Relief efforts include 21 tonnes of materials and supplies airlifted to Kabul, with intentions to send more aid soon. This assistance highlights India's commitment to Afghan relief operations amid challenging circumstances.
