The Supreme Court has issued a directive to the Delhi Development Authority, instructing them to dismantle illegal constructions and encroachments in Okhla Village, located in the national capital. Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan have ordered the authority to submit a compliance affidavit within three months.
The bench emphasized that the DDA must carry out the demolition following legal procedures. Specifically, a notice of at least 15 days must be provided to the concerned parties before taking any action against unauthorized structures within the specified area of 2 bighas and 10 biswas.
Further, the court observed that of the total area, a portion was not handed over to the DDA and a segment fell within the PM-UDAY scheme boundaries. The court directed the state government to proceed with demolitions for those areas outside the scheme's coverage as per legal protocols. The hearing was in response to a contempt plea highlighting the ongoing encroachment violations against its 2018 orders.
