The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) has announced the second national lok adalat of the year, scheduled for May 10, to be held across 28 states and Union Territories. This initiative aims to make justice more accessible through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
In several regions, including Assam, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, lok adalats will take place on later dates due to court closures over summer vacations. These judiciaries serve a vital role in swiftly resolving disputes like criminal compoundable offences and bank recovery matters.
Designed under the Legal Services Authorities Act and the National Legal Services Authority Regulations, lok adalats are instrumental in offering efficient, participatory routes to justice, bypassing cumbersome litigation processes. Their legally binding awards lessen the burden on formal courts, ensuring swift resolution.
