A smuggling attempt was thwarted at the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal as the Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended a man carrying gold biscuits worth Rs 33.53 lakh.
Based on precise intelligence, BSF's 143 battalion detained a motorcycle rider at the Bithari border outpost, discovering three gold biscuits hidden in the bike's engine.
The suspect confessed to being a resident of Hakimpur Uttarpara and intended to deliver the gold to a contact in Swarupdaha in exchange for Rs 3,000, authorities reported.
