The Odisha government is set to suspend nearly 20.58 lakh ration cards following the lapse of the e-KYC verification deadline, announced Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra.

The e-KYC verification campaign, initiated in August 2024, aims to remove ineligible beneficiaries. Despite multiple deadline extensions, many have not complied. Beneficiaries have a three-month grace period to complete their e-KYC verification at fair price stores to avoid having their ration cards deactivated.

In the agricultural sector, the Odisha government procured 19 lakh metric tonnes of paddy during this Rabi crop season, up from 12 lakh MT last year, due to a higher procurement rate of Rs 3,100 per quintal offered to state farmers.
