July 25, 2025 marked a significant milestone in India’s constitutional history as President Smt. Droupadi Murmu completed three years in office. As the 15th President of India and the nation’s first tribal woman to hold the highest constitutional post, President Murmu’s tenure has been marked by a commitment to inclusivity, transparency, technology integration, and citizen-centric governance.

To commemorate the occasion, Rashtrapati Bhavan unveiled a slew of initiatives and upgrades, underscoring the President’s ongoing efforts to bring the office closer to the people—both symbolically and practically.

Milestone in Accessibility: A Divyangjan-Friendly Presidential Estate

One of the most impactful achievements of President Murmu’s tenure so far has been the complete transformation of Rashtrapati Bhavan and its estates into Divyangjan-friendly premises. Following a comprehensive 50-point recommendation made by the Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities, key locations including Rashtrapati Bhavan, Amrit Udyan, and the Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum have been retrofitted to ensure universal accessibility.

This includes the installation of ramps, tactile paths, accessible toilets, elevators, and interactive kiosks—creating a model public space that can be emulated across the country.

Rashtrapati Bhavan Websites Now in 22 Indian Languages

In a bid to reach the diverse linguistic population of India, President Murmu presided over the launch of Rashtrapati Bhavan’s official websites—www.rashtrapatibhavan.gov.in and www.presidentofindia.gov.in—in 22 Indian languages. This initiative aims to deepen citizen engagement and ensure that vital information about the President’s Office, heritage sites, and civic programmes is accessible to Indians in their native tongues.

This multilingual digital presence supports the spirit of inclusivity envisioned in the Digital India and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programmes.

Enhancing Visitor Experience Across Presidential Estates

To make the President’s residences more open and inviting, multiple visitor-oriented facilities were inaugurated over the past year:

  • A Visitor Facilitation Centre at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi

  • Nilayam Nikunj—a guest and interaction space—at Rashtrapati Nilayam, Hyderabad

  • A newly constructed Cafeteria, Souvenir Shop, and Reception Centre at Rashtrapati Niwas, Mashobra

  • A renovated Gymnasium at the President’s Estate, New Delhi, promoting fitness among residents

These additions aim to improve civic interface, promote domestic tourism, and strengthen public appreciation of India’s presidential heritage.

Promoting Philanthropy: Season 2 of E-Upahaar Launched

President Murmu also launched Season 2 of ‘E-Upahaar’, a digital auction platform that offers memorabilia and gifts received by the President for public bidding. This season features over 250 items, ranging from cultural artifacts to commemorative tokens. The auction proceeds will go towards initiatives for the welfare of children, reiterating the President’s strong commitment to social equity and youth empowerment.

Details of the auction are available at: upahaar.rashtrapatibhavan.gov.in

Environmental Stewardship: Net Zero Rashtrapati Bhavan by 2027

In a visionary move towards sustainability, President Murmu has initiated a roadmap to transform Rashtrapati Bhavan into a Net Zero campus by March 2027. This includes plans for:

  • Solar power expansion

  • Rainwater harvesting

  • Wastewater recycling

  • Energy-efficient lighting and heating systems

This initiative not only positions Rashtrapati Bhavan as a model green campus but also aligns with India’s commitment to net-zero emissions by 2070.

It is always our endeavour to effectively connect all sections of society, especially the underprivileged and backward classes, with the country's development journey,” she said.

The President also noted her happiness in making Rashtrapati Bhavan accessible to persons with disabilities, and voiced confidence that more citizen-focused initiatives would be introduced in the near future.
