A court in Maharashtra has quashed the non-bailable warrant issued against BJP MLA Nitesh Rane in a defamation case brought by Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut. The warrant was issued following Rane's failure to attend court hearings.
Judge A. A. Kulkarni annulled the warrant on the condition that Rane is present in court the next day to record his response. This decision follows multiple instances where Rane was absent from court, prompting several warrants to be issued.
The case traces back to May 2023 when Rane allegedly made derogatory remarks about Raut, predicting a shift in political allegiance. Raut, a Rajya Sabha member, deemed these remarks defamatory and sought judicial intervention.
