Court Convicts 38 in Syana Violence Case

A landmark verdict was delivered on Wednesday as a court convicted 38 people, including five for murder, in relation to the 2018 Syana violence case. The violence resulted in the deaths of a police inspector and a civilian following a public unrest over alleged cow slaughter in Bulandshahr district.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge Gopal Ji found five accused guilty under the Indian Penal Code's murder provisions. The remaining faced serious charges such as arson and rioting. The sentencing is scheduled for August 1, according to the prosecution.

Special Public Prosecutor Yashpal Singh Raghav confirmed the charges were proven against 38 out of the 44 named. During the trial, more than 27 witnesses provided testimonies, leading to this significant conviction. Senior police officials highlighted the initial unrest, which resulted in violence and destruction.
