In a significant development for law and order management, the Manipur government has authorized the establishment of a new police station in Imphal, the capital, and created 12 new posts for Sub Divisional Police Officers (SDPO) across nine districts. This initiative aims to enhance policing capabilities and supervision of investigations throughout the state, according to an official statement released on Sunday.
The strategic decision follows a proposal from the Manipur Police Department to establish a Secretariat Police Station at Mantripukhri. This follows the planned relocation of the State Civil Secretariat and Police Headquarters to the same area, necessitating stronger security measures, the statement noted.
The new Secretariat Police Station will serve not only the Secretariat complex and Police Headquarters but also surrounding institutions, including the Manipur High Court, IIIT, and the Forest Office Complex. Additionally, a dedicated SDPO post has been created for the New Capital Complex in Imphal East District to meet administrative and security demands, improving operational efficiency in newly established districts like Kangpokpi, Tengnoupal, Kamjong, Pherzawl, and Noney.
