Allegations of Police Misconduct in Pune Spark Political Outcry

Three women in Pune have come forward with accusations against police officers, claiming physical harassment and casteist remarks during an investigation related to a missing woman from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The woman had briefly stayed with them, prompting the inquiry.

In response to these allegations, political entities such as the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) have called for action against the officers involved. NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar led the women and activists to the Pune Police Commissionerate, seeking charges under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Despite these assertions, the police have refuted the claims, citing a lack of substantiated evidence. Some political figures have criticized Pawar's approach, alleging intimidation tactics. The case underscores ongoing tensions and calls for accountability within law enforcement.
