West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took direct action on Tuesday, visiting the flood-stricken Kamarpukur region in Hooghly district. She was seen serving food at a community kitchen to people who sought refuge at a flood relief center.
Flooding has wreaked havoc across significant parts of southern West Bengal, including districts such as Paschim Medinipur, Hooghly, and Howrah. The heavy downpours combined with overflowing rivers have amplified the crisis.
Banerjee sharply criticized the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) for its excessive water release from reservoirs, which she claimed had increased thirtyfold this year compared to 2023, worsening the flooding in several low-lying areas.
